The workroom of grandfather Giuseppe
Since the 30's and soon after the war, my grandfather Giuseppe had a shop for selling sewing machines in Milan. At the rear there was a workroom where he fixed the machines or did other maintenance as needed. I know for sure that people used to bring very badly damaged machines and some were even distressed by bombing during the war. He patiently fixed them and made them work perfectly again. He even restored the golden decorations. At the end of this job they looked pretty new!

I wanted to reproduce my grandfather's workroom as it was in 1951, when I still was a child and when there still was a wood-burning stove and his tools spread over the working table. The structure of this roombox has a base of 33x20 cm and a height of 26 cms. As usual I have used MDF, the floor that imitates "cotto" tiles has been made over a thin board of birch wood that I covered with stucco, painted and engraved with a pointed tool. On the ceiling there are some boards of natural wood that used to be a decoration and a support for the ceiling.

Details of the working table and the old pedal-table.
Bello vero?
On the left of the roombox there is the working table with a sewing machine waiting to be repaired. On the wall there is a "Diploma of Honour", a recognition that my grandfather received at one of his many exhibits at the Fair of Milan.
In the foreground and in the centre of the roombox there is an old pedal-table made with metal from which the sewing machine has been taken off for repairing. I made this in etched brass, in order to faithfully represent the decorated structure as it was in use at those times.
The mechanism of the pedal is perfectly working. Isn't it beautiful?
On the right wall the door is perfectly working and can be opened. Nearby a calendar hangs, showing the date of October 1951 and a thermometer. I made the wood-burning stove that stands in the middle of the room with a round wood piece that I decorated with some details made out in etched metal.
